Shakespeare Theatre Company<\/a>\u00a0has announced the casting for its holiday presentation of\u00a0Guys and Dolls.\u00a0<\/em>In addition to previously announced Broadway stars, the cast includes both local favorites and fresh talents to the STC stage. Directed by Washington National Opera Artistic Director\u00a0Francesca Zambello<\/strong>\u00a0(Porgy and Bess<\/em>,\u00a0Turandot<\/em>,\u00a0West Side Story<\/em>) and choreographed by\u00a0Joshua Bergasse<\/strong>\u00a0(Smash<\/em>,\u00a0Bull Durham<\/em>),\u00a0Guys and Dolls\u00a0<\/em>plays STC\u2019s Harman Hall December 2 through January 4.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The oldest established permanent floating crap game in New York just got busted, and Nathan Detroit needs cold, hard cash to get it up and running again. Enter high-roller Sky Masterson, who Nathan wagers can\u2019t get a date with the straightlaced Sarah Brown, a Salvation Army missionary trying to save them all from sin. Dance the night away to \u201cLuck Be a Lady,\u201d \u201cSit Down, You\u2019re Rockin\u2019 the Boat,\u201d \u201cA Bushel and a Peck,\u201d and more classic tunes in the must-see show of the holiday season.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As previously announced, a lineup of Broadway and musical theater talent headlines the cast. In the role of the mannered and conservative Sarah Brown is Julie Benko, <\/strong>most recently from an acclaimed run in the Broadway production of Funny Girl <\/em>(named New York Times<\/em> 2022 Breakout Star in Theatre), and Barry Manilow\u2019s Harmony<\/em>. Jacob Dickey <\/strong>(Old Friends <\/em>with Bernadette Peters, Aladdin, Company<\/em>) will play opposite her as the suave gambler Sky Masterson. Playing the noncommittal Nathan Detroit will be Rob Colletti <\/strong>(Almost Famous, <\/em>original Dewey Finn in the School of Rock <\/em>National Tour), and as his on-again, off-again girlfriend Adelaide is Hayley Podschun, <\/strong>whose Broadway credits include Wicked<\/em> (Glinda, National Tour); Hello, Dolly!<\/em>; Something Rotten!<\/em>; and more. She was last seen in D.C. in a Helen Hayes-nominated turn in Catch Me If You Can <\/em>at Arena Stage.<\/p>\n\n\n

Brannigan; Lawrence Redmond <\/strong>(Our Town,<\/em> A Midsummer Night\u2019s Dream<\/em>, others) as Arvide Abernathy; Ahmad Kamal <\/strong>(Babbitt, Everybody, Richard III<\/em>) as Big Jule; Calvin McCullough <\/strong>(Peter Pan and Wendy<\/em>) as Benny Southstreet; and Katherine Riddle <\/strong>(Matchbox Magic Flute, Secret Garden<\/em>) as Agatha.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Julie Benko joined the annals of theatrical legend for her sensational understudy-to-star trajectory as Fanny Brice in the Broadway revival of Funny Girl<\/em>, for which she received Theatre World\u2019s Dorothy Loudon Award and was named the 2022 Breakout Star for Theater by The New York Times <\/em>and one of 10 Broadway Stars to Watch by Variety<\/em>, among other accolades. She created the role of Ruth in the Broadway production of Barry Manilow\u2019s Harmony<\/em>, and has also been seen on Broadway and in National Tours of Fiddler on the Roof, Les Mis\u00e9rables<\/em>, and Spring Awakening<\/em>. Francesca Zambello 
<\/strong>Director 
<\/em>Francesca Zambello is the General Director, Emerita of the Glimmerglass Festival and the Artistic Director of the Washington National Opera at the Kennedy Center. She is also an internationally recognized director of opera and theater. Zambello\u2019s work has been seen at major opera houses, festivals, and theaters around the globe. She has been awarded the Chevalier des Arts et des Lettres by the French government, the Knighthood of the Order of the Star of Italy for her contribution to Italian culture and the Russian Federation\u2019s medal for Service to Culture. She was also given the San Francisco Opera Medal for Artistic Excellence for more than 30 years of artistic contributions to the company. Her theatrical honors include three Olivier Awards, two Evening Standard Awards, two French Grand Prix des Critiques, Helpmann Award, Green Room Award, and Russia\u2019s Golden Mask.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
